Justice and nature. Simple.

Welcome!

I am an expert in multi-stakeholder transformation in complex environments, an experienced social entrepreneur & systems-change leader, who helps organisations turn public good ambitions into real-world impact that strengthens societies.

I am recognized for my ability to navigate complex multi-stakeholder environments, cope with institutional complexity, and advance change and innovation - building teams, and delivering results.  For over 25 years, I have held executive and board-level roles in internationally operating organisations, doing that.

As international official, I helped establish the International Criminal Court and scale the Yugoslav Tribunal. I went on to found and lead the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) and the Wildlife Justice Commission (WJC), two ventures that pioneered new approaches in justice, governance, and conservation.  In executive roles, I have steered transformation, developed strategies, built cross-sector, multistakeholder partnerships, and secured large funding agreements. I have advised ministers, chief justices, civil society leaders, and CEOs - working with governments, international organisations, development finance institutions, and businesses, in often politically sensitive and fragile contexts, particularly in Africa and the MENA region.

My board experience includes the member of the Managing Board of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, board chair of WWF Netherlands, trustee of WWF International, and the board chair of the Wildlife Justice Commission. I have served on two World Economic Forum Global Agenda Councils on governance innovation and on the advisory board of the Justice Action Coalition.

For my work on justice and democracy, I received the Tällberg-SNS Global Leadership Prize in 2022 and, in 2024, a Dutch Royal Decoration for contributions to rule of law and environmental conservation.
